Roadtrip 2016 Fall: Vancouver - Yakima - Bend - John Day River - Port Orford - Florence - Seaside - Vancouver

Day 9 - John Day Fossil - Blue Basin

Today's hike into the Fabled Blue Basin. Emma is dubious. About the fable.

A boy, a bush, and his dog.

There are 11 of these bridges. We're told dogs hate the surface on 'em. Emma is deciding.

Approacing Blue Basin Central.

To my eyes these landforms are decidedly green, not blue.

Yup. The basin is blue. We think the blueness is related to that power-generating shack we found in the area two days ago.

I see green, the boy has a blue deficiency - it really messes him up sometimes.

We linger a little too long. The black helicopters are coming.

Emma Sherpa Brown Sock demonstrates the stepping leap. Pretty good for an old dog.

The World-Famous Brain Rock, so named for its ability to out-think Trump.

The skeletal remnants of these plants are so cool - looks like a lattice of frost over the ground below.

It's small and hard to see, but it does qualify as today's Official Mystery Poo.

We dodge some local showers - as the irrigation equipment appears poised for take off.

The past few day's rain have created a nice, grass path for us in the desert.

The highways department is making sure we understand all of our options.

The top-secret Monsanto Shoe Tree. They are clearly having trouble with the Nike gene.

We race for home, as more rainclouds gather.
